Three Things You MUST Have In Your Marketing Strategy

We live in the age of “the brand.” Companies have brands. People have brands––you have a brand. From an initial handshake to an online presence, branding is as important today as ever before. But, how does someone get their brand from themselves to being accepted out there?

That’s where marketing comes in.

Marketing is the connection between your brand and the consumer you hope to reach––from your product to their need. Sounds easy enough, right? Not so fast. Knowing something needs to be done and doing that thing is a little different. Read on to discover our top three “must’s” in any good marketing strategy.

Tip 1: Who Are You?

One of the first mistakes someone makes in their marketing strategy is failing to clearly define who they are, what they do, why they do it, and who they do it for.

In other words, Mr. Brand thinks he has a great idea to generate viewership, clientele, and product interest, but he doesn’t have a strategy, his message is a bit unclear, and he’s really not sure what to do moving forward.

Marketing only works if there’s a connection made between the brand and the consumer. If Mr. Brand operates a taco shop but continues to promote his guava smoothies on Facebook, no amount of money thrown at marketing strategies will improve his goal of building a successful business.

Start here––clearly define who, what, when, where, and why (we’ll get to how later). This will save you and your target audience time, energy, and confusion in the long run.

Tip 2: Marketing Plan

We’ve noted several times before that planning is the key to success. The second most common mistake committed by good-hearted business owners is a lack of planning on their marketing strategy.

I may be going out on a limb here, but if 150 customers walk into Mr. Brand’s taco shop and he only has enough food to feed 100 of them, 50 people are going to leave in a bad mood. Without a good marketing plan, your brand will suffer to satisfy its customers.

For success in marketing, you need to have a good marketing plan. It’s the thing that will get you from point A to point B, with little resistance in the middle. Your marketing plan will set the foundation for everything else you do as a brand––including social media campaigns, written blogs, video concepts, logo designs, website treatments, and more.

Tip 3: Professionalism

A third mistake that people often make is to take on their marketing efforts for themselves. While we don’t want to say that you can never do this, we want to argue that the best thing for your marketing strategy is the backing of a professional marketing team.

The thing Mr. Brand does best is making tacos. The thing we do best is marketing. Collaboration isn’t a sign of weakness––it’s the very thing that might ensure your business’ success.
